Internal Auditing

How does a company know that its systems are working the way the were designed to work? Overall company performance may be witnessed through a reduction in complaints, non-conformances etc, but these indcators rely upon a like-for-like comparison (e.g. number of complaints in year 1 versus number of complaints in years 2, 3 & 4) and so can be a lengthy process and will only provide general information of the the state of the system. Auditing provides a company with an immediate picture of how the system (or part of the system) is working and can pinpoint where a system is failing and where a system is working well.

Internal auditing is also a requirement of the ISO management standards.

Supplier Audits

Are you considering engaging a new supplier or has an established supplier let you down and you want to know why? Consider auditing them.

As a company, your reputation is only as good as the service you receive from your suppliers. If a supplier lets you down then all your customer will see is that you have let them down, not that it was your suppliers problem. This can result not only in loss of work but may also lead to losing the customer.

Supplier approval should be a key factor when considering from whom to purchase goods or services. If you have used the same supplier for a number of years and have had no problems then you can probably feel safe in the fact that they will not let you down in the future; but what about those suppliers that you have just engaged or are about to engage? Are they able to supply you with the service you require?

Has a supplier provided you with a product or service that was unacceptable? Is the frequency of these problms increasing? are their responses acceptable? If any of these answers give you cause for concern then you may wish to consider auditing them. If you don't feel that you have the manpower or exertise to do so then contact Ian Edwards at Havard Quality Solutions Ltd.

Gap Analyses

If you are considering undertaking a project to implement an ISO standard, one of the first things you should consider is a Gap Analysis to highlight areas you meet the standard and, more importantly areas where you need to improve. If you do not have the in-house expertise to carry out this analysis then contact Ian Edwards at Havard Quality Solutions Ltd. He will walk you through the process by auditing your system against the ISO requirements and provide you with a report highlighting areas that need improving before you go for your assessment. your business understand:
